Yes post some pictures if you can. Sounds somewhat like the Skene boat (Walrus) that George Putz has revived in his book "Wood and Canvas Kayak Building". The original Skene plans date to the 20's, so '31 is not that far fetched. Your boat sounds a little shorter, though. Does the inside framing look anything like the picture below? If not then perhaps it is more of a traditional native design.
