Hey come on,

Lets look at some possible balance in nature for a moment...

The very hard kayak probably severed a brake line, or dislodged the muffler. Probably one of two things happened...

Her brake fluid gushed out little by little as she drove away cursing her head off, until the reservoir and master cylinder were bone dry. After that she lost total stopping power and got mashed beyond recognition at a four way intersection. Right about then St Peter the fisherman paddles up to her in a kayak...
