Gary,
My family wanted to get me a set of binoculars for Christmas last year. After looking around various web sites I recommended a pair from Brunton. I have listed their web site below. I believe the bought them at the REI web site. Check them out. I believe Brunton might have what you are looking for.

: Pardon this off topic question but I thought that some of you may be able to
: offer some advice. The Mrs. has made a request for some compact binoculars
: for sight seeing while kayaking. First, they must be small. I'd say 8x20
: to 10x25. Second, they need to be waterproof. She's not too particular on
: anything else.
: Now while I'm in the binocular buying mode, I'd figure I'd finally replace my
: broken compact set. I'd use these for hunting as well and was considering
: going up a size to the 8x32, 10x40 or 12x42 range. I'd like 'em light,
: waterproof and here's the hard part, good quality and reasonably priced,
: (read less than $200). OK maybe $250.
: Anyone have recommendations on brands, models, features or sources? I'm
: surprised at how expensive these suckers can be! Many are more than the
: price of a boat!
: My wife's will be a Christmas present and mine I need in a couple of weeks to
: help me find those big bucks that have been hiding so well in the NH
: woods.
: Thanks,
: Gary B.
