Hi Bill,
Thanks for the comments. The lock knob (only one)is used to unlock the rudder from a fixed skeg like position to a movable steering rudder. It's connected to the lock assembly (the little lever thing with the spring on it)just behind the round portion of the steering assemblyand is made from mahogany. The recessed fittings on the Seafire 14 are made from Paduk and on my other two boats they are either paduk or mahogany.
