: Pardon this off topic question but I thought that some of you may be able to
: offer some advice. The Mrs. has made a request for some compact binoculars
: for sight seeing while kayaking. First, they must be small. I'd say 8x20
: to 10x25. Second, they need to be waterproof. She's not too particular on
: anything else.
: Now while I'm in the binocular buying mode, I'd figure I'd finally replace my
: broken compact set. I'd use these for hunting as well and was considering
: going up a size to the 8x32, 10x40 or 12x42 range. I'd like 'em light,
: waterproof and here's the hard part, good quality and reasonably priced,
: (read less than $200). OK maybe $250.
: Anyone have recommendations on brands, models, features or sources? I'm
: surprised at how expensive these suckers can be! Many are more than the
: price of a boat!
: My wife's will be a Christmas present and mine I need in a couple of weeks to
: help me find those big bucks that have been hiding so well in the NH
: woods.
: Thanks,
: Gary B.
Gary,
Sea Kayaker magazine did a review of 4 brands of compact, and about 6 of standard, waterproof binoculars in the April 2000 issue. It may be worth looking at, if you have not already seen it. It might also be one of the online articles found on their web site.
