: Has anyone here tried post cure finishing at high temperature.
: An info sheet I have for epoxy says that this will increase the general
: toughness of the epoxy. It recommends temperatures up to 50DegC.
: I have seen this web site by Ray Jardine. He made an autoclave out of
: cardboard boxes!.
In most cases it will incerase the breaking strain to allmost double. At normal pressure water does not boil below 100C and at 50C the vapor pressure is not enough to cause trouble unless your wood is thoroughly soaked (not a good idea anyway). The post cure will bring up just about any unevenness there is and a few more so the surface will not be quite as shiny as wíthout it. But the result is more durable.
