And don't bother with variable speed. Just work your way through several grits and most importantly, you should always touch-sand any surface you sanded with power to eliminate any swirl marks (you'll notice Uncle Norm always says "now, after a little hand-sanding, we'll be ready for the finish") I'm sure the Porter-Cable RO sanders are both great (the Quicksands, I believe they are called), as all PC tools are, but I can personally vouch for the 421. It's a safe bet.
