Not necessarily. It may have been more a function of the staple gun and my hands getting tired. I think my gun has some bent parts that allow the staples to start out at a slight angle which results in misses. Also, the longer staples may hold better. The 1/4" staples can be pulled out fairly easily. I'll be depending on my rubrails and keel to hold things in place securely. The wood will make a difference too. I wouldn't be discouraged.
