I used 3/8" and only had the occasional misfire, probably about 10 out of the 550 staples used on this last kayak. An additional 10 had to be tapped in with a hammer, plus about half of the staples going into the plywood for the coaming base. I've noticed 3 misfired staples that I didn't catch until after I started painting. The rubrails will cover these up.
