In Response To: flush hatch covers (Don Campbell)

: I'm getting to the hatch covers on my Guillemot. I've cut out the holes and I
: am using the cutouts for the covers. I would like the covers to be flush
: after I put the weatherstrip around the edge. I am thinking of taping some
: cardboard onto the hatch cover and then taping this in place and doing the
: 6 or so layers of glass to create the lip. The cardboard will allow for
: the thickness of the weatherstrip.
: Has anyone done anything similar to this or maybe has a better idea?

: TIA Don

Don,
I'm at the same stage, I cut out a "picture frame" of lath 3/16 in. thick in the shape of the hatch cover about two inches wide. It takes at least 6 layers of cloth to reach the proper thickness but most of these can be done at the same time. After cure cut flange to thickness of gasket. Use saran wrap for release film, I didn't have good luck with wax.
