Why do you choose red oak. Red oak is porous (you can blow bubbles through a short red oak stick. Red oak check when subject to wetting and drying. Red oak turns black when soaked. Red oak is heavy. Red oak is expensive. And most of all, although, epoxy can temperorily stick to red oak, there is no telling when it might part their own way.

Sounds like a bad idea to me.
