I cover my bars with foam pipe insulation (duct taped on the bars). The insulation cushions the yaks , hepls to keep the wet yaks from sliding off when loading. Also if you use tie down straps to hold the kayaks on put a couple of twists in the exposed parts of the hold down webbing, otherwise then tend to sing and hum.
