I know we have had some discussions in the past about using colored chalk as a pigment for coloring epoxy. I have played around with it a little on sample pieces (see below).
I was wondering if anyone could think of any reason why not to color epoxy with chalk? Then way not use the colored epoxy to encapsulate (including the fiberglass) the entirely boat (My wife wants a blue boat). I know I could build a boat and paint it the color she wants. What I was thinking I could keep the maintenance down, because the scratches would be less noticeable.
As of yet I have not made up any sample boards to test for strength loss/gain. Also I have not determined how much pigment to use for a batch of epoxy to keep the color consistent.
What I found so far is that the chalk for chalk lines works the best because it is a very finely ground and very consistent. Another bonus is that it comes in a variety of colors.
