: I called the lumberyard and they stated that Western Red Cedar was $.69 ft.,
: Clear pine is $1.05 ft. and they also have spruce very light colored and
: some fairly knot free pieces its $.49 ft. This is for 1x6's. are these
: prices ok. and is spruce ok for stripping.

I went to a couple of lumber yards yesterday to look at red cedar and white pine. It looks like I am going to be doing a lot of scarfing. One lumber yard had a stack of 1x12x8 FT pine for shelving at $7 each. I went through about 50 boards and found one that was good light weight white pine with very few knots. I felt like I had made a steal. I would like to get the deep red cedar and it looks like I will be sorting for color and also for less knots. I found good looking red wood but it was the 1 1/4 inch decking. I suppose that could be used.
