I live in a small woods here in Indiana. It is full of walnut, and cherry. As I walked the dog yesterday I saw a 10 inch walnut tree that had fallen and split open. I thought about taking a peice back to the house and trying to saw or plane it down enough to start sawing a few strips to put on my boat for accent. It would be a lot of work but I am still thinking about it.
