Both my wife and I have paddled the Night Heron and we feel that it is one of the best designs that we have found. We took the opportunity to paddle the Night Heron and many other boats at the Newfound Rendezvous in New Hampshire this fall. the Night Heron has good hull size without excess volume, it handles well in wind and waves (powerboat wakes). The boat tracks well and turns well. The most noteworthy is its secondary stablilty. The primary stability is good, but you can lean the boat well over against increasing righting moment. I could lean the boat and put water up on the coaming and still feel solid. This boat will do well in a beam sea. After trying over a dozen designs we bought the plans. The Night Heron won us both over, hands down. We have now started construction on the low deck version.
