Do it! Dale Frolander used walnut on the deck of his Guillemot Triple and it looks beautiful. Besides, you can save the wood from just lying there and rotting. What a way to really make the boat "your own"!

Look for a sawmill operator in your area to see if they could at least square it for you. If you could haul the log to them, you might get it done quite cheaply.
