: I made some drybags and thought I would share with you folks how I made them.
Hi Matthew,
I've made 14 drybags from the same stuff, with varying degrees of success. I also don't buy the "why make them when you can buy them cheaply" argument. I made bags for $3US, and I can't regularly buy them for less than $10-15. Usually, $15-20. Sometimes, I can get cheap seconds from Seattle Sports, but the selection doesn't permit the exact bags I'm wanting.
A couple of questions--
Is the PVC cement you used the same stuff sold for gluing rigid, white PVC pipe? I tried it with varying success--any tips for amount of adhesive, time, etc?
How long did it take for the adhesive to take hold when gluing the "tube" together?
I did actually get some clear 10 oz. vinyl to make some "windowed" bags that are pretty cool for seeing your stuff inside. I also tried some tapered bags for the extreme ends of the bow and stern. I really like your bottom forming method--you're light years ahead of me there!! I also haven't tried heat sealing, maybe I'll have to give that a crack this winter.
Thanks for posting a great description and photos!!
Shawn
