: Hi Guys,

: I need to build an outdoor home for my kayak out of wood for year round
: shelter from the elememnts. My question is - how waterproof will an
: epoxy/plywood "shed" be for my yak under those extended
: circumstances... will the epoxy give way and let moisture seep in causing
: mold and mildew damage? I need a year round waterproof - wood constrcution
: - shed for my yak. How waterproof is epoxy under these circumstances? I
: mean will it eventualy allow moisture to "bleed" thru? {It will

Hey Pete

I'm with Don, why would you want to go with anything as expensive as epoxy for a building? That and it would have to be replaced or repaired more often than just painting. I'd just build a woodframe shed, and use flake board or cheap plywood, prime/seal, and paint it. Then use rolled roofing on it, instead of shingles or shakes as it is cheaper, and just as affective. I'm about done with my barn/shed, and it's built solid as a house, and it's 10' x 12' with a loft, and concrete floor, and it's going to cost me around $1,000 total. You could build a woodframe shed, longer, narrower and lower for a whole lot less.

If you are just wanting to cover the boat(s) then there are much cheaper methods, such as pvc poles and canvas, or plastic sheets. Also, some of the aluminum pole tents with fabric sides and metal top are fairly cheap.

There have been discussions on the KBB in the past and some very good ideas have come up for kayak storage. You might want to try your luck at retrieving them from the archives, or just wait, and you'll get a few more responses to this post. Hope this helps.
