Jenny, You have received all sorts of really good advice from some very wise builders and paddlers. My last cent's worth is to echo someone who told me to not buy a beginner kayak because I am a beginner. They encouraged me to get a boat that would challenge my skills as a paddler and that I would have to work at to "grow into". Pretty smart, I thought. Now go out there and get building!
