: Well, I launched the new modified Walrus today as planned. I noticed right
: away that is was very tippy getting in and the smaller cockpit also make
: entry more difficult. When I left the dock, It immediately became clear
: that at least one of the objectives was accomplished. It was VERY quick.
: It accelerated easily to a very fast pace. With my 3.25” wide Aluet paddle
: it was effortless to propel it. I think it turns about the same as my
: Arctic Tern when up on edge, but tracks stronger than the Tern when it is
: level in the water. Primary stability is light compared to my other
: kayaks, but I felt very comfortable with it after I got in. Secondary felt
: okay, but it didn’t have the rock solid edge of wider kayaks. There was
: only a slight breeze, and I felt no weathercocking. It felt quite lively
: in boat wakes. I like this new kayak quite a bit.
: I’ll write up a trip report soon, with more details and post it on the trips
: BBS.
Hey, Great Mike. It sounds like you accomplished, at least on the surface, many if not all of your goals. Not a bad days work. So, now that you are a new born designer, when are the plans coming out.
Well, I know it feels good when a plan comes together, so you must be feeling great. Congrats on the new boat. Looking forward to checking out the trip "study" and final analysis of the alterations. Got any pics of the standard and the redesign next to each other? Completed. Interested to see just how different they are, or if it is really noticable at all. Enjoy that new creation.
