I have to agree with Dave. Triples and doubles have there place, but they represent a compromise. When my daughter was going on eleven I built her a CLC Mill Pond 13'. After a season on the water she is comfortable enough to be on her own near shore. And we are getting comfortable with her use. I expect that she'll want to do more extensive paddling with us in a couple more seasons and the Milly will give way to something with better performance. For now the big open cockpit provides easy egress in the event of capsize, although the 28" beam makes this unlikely. Those girls of yours will be young women sooner than you want and will gain a foot or so of altitude in the next few years (my girl's pushing 5'5"). May be time to just get them comfortable on the water in your company and a canoe will be useful down the road. Believe me, these years will fly by - enjoy them.
: My family - myself, wife, and 7 yr old twin daughters-would like to get into
: kayaking as a family activity.
