Hi everyone,
I am thinking of an alternative approach to the bungee mounting method. I am considering using a "tube" approach. You can take a piece of stainless steel tubing and bend it to a U-shape. If you than drill two oversize holes at each point where you want to mount a bungee and mount the U-shape mount from the underside of the deck so that it ends up flush with the outside of the deck, you have a flush mount which is rigid. Insert the bungees and your done. I would choose an oversize hole which leave a small ring of epoxy around the tubing to keep the wood dry.
The main drawback is that water will get into these tubes and will evapourate slowly with the bungee in it. The diameter of the bungee should be chosen that it allows the bungee to move relatively free. It will not be a super tight fit. The right material will minimize corrosion.
The fitting can be made by maching or simply bending stainless tubing.
Any thoughts on this idea are appreciated.

: Hi All;
: After months of being unable to get to the rigging on my 'yak, it is finally
: underway. As you'll recall, I wanted to use Joe Greenley's "soft
: loop" approach. I ended up using some of the spruce strip I trimmed
: the deck with, cutting it into 2" long blocks. I seems like it will
: be plenty strong enough after the spruce & webbing were epoxied
: together.
: I've got a few more pics of the process on my kayak pages, given below. Click
: on the "Finish" link and scroll down near the bottom.
: Best Regards, Spidey
