Hi Paul;
Thanks much for the info. I was hoping to spread the stress around a bit with the small wooden blocks, but after watching how they seat, it doesn't look like the blocks accomplish much. It turned out the epoxy actually did wick up the webbing far enough to where the webbing is stiff about 1/16" above the slot in the block - That makes it tough to seat the blocks flush against the inside of the deck. It would be a simpler solution to just fuse the webbing. When I cut the webbing, I set a large chisel in a vise and heated it with a torch. It does a great job of melting the webbing, I might try to make a few "blobs" at the ends of loops this way.
I did seal my slots, but I used varnish because I was worried that epoxy might close them up to where I could not get the webbing through. Also, one of the big selling points of using silicone RTV to attach the loops is the ease of later deck refinishing. If I epoxied them in, they wouldn't be easily removable. I do agree that the epoxy would make the slot & webbing dead waterproof, my wooden blocks sure are!
I'll let you know how the webbing-fusing turns out.
Best Regards, Spidey
