Hello Dale,
I melt a large bead on the cut ends of the webbing - this effectively fuses the ends together. Place a little sealant on the bead and thread the webbing through the slot.
This photo is of the webbing bead after sealant has been applied and it has been threaded through the slot from inside the kayak.
