I built a 15' kayak called a Tursiops from plans in Wooden Boat Magazine
The plans called for Styrofoam to be fit into the bow and stern, held in place by bulkheads that have 1/8" space all around for drainage and ventilation.
This provides a minimal amount of floatation. There is room for inflatable
floatation and they dont have to be pushed up into the narrow ends of the kayak.
