Max,

I have done some research on using hemp canvas for SOF. Hemp canvas can be purchased from Pickering International, LLC. They were very helpful with my research. I received a series of swatches from Pickering along with a price list.

The first thing I noticed is the hemp canvas is much softer than cotton. I’m guessing this is because the hemp is being used for upscale retail goods such as handbags, totebags and such. The other thing that became apparent is the lose weave of the fabric.

14 oz Hemp canvas
Warp count per inch: 22

14 oz #10 cotton duck canvas
Warp count per inch: 34

This open weave may be a problem when trying to seal the fabric.

Something else to keep in mind is that since the resurgence of hemp fabric is fairly recent, the supply is limited.

100% hemp canvas- 14 oz $10.00 per meter, minimum of 10 meters. Width is 56” to 60”

Hope this info helps,
Roger
