: HI, I am located in IN. I use to have a friend that had a bandsaw saw mill he
: would bring to your logs, but he has sence retired. I had a walnut tree
: that had fallen down and so I decided that I would cut it for strips to
: accent my store bought cedar and pine. I am now ready to put my first
: walnut strip on.

: John, You may want to check the WoodMizer site they can put you in contact with the owner of one of their mills in your area willing to do your milling. While walnut is not in great demand right now it seems a shame to convert much of your log into chainsaw dust. A bandmill takes out less than a 1/16" per cut compared to the chainsaw mill. Generally, the economies of lumber dictate that a sawlog be at least 8" in diameter to make milling worth while, but I often will work with stuff down to six if it's valuable lumber such as walnut. This is particularly true if you're looking for strips. After all there's only so much that can go in the stove. Good luck!
