: Anyone have any comments on using a kerosene heater in a small unheated
: workshop
: /garage. I'm going to start stripping within the next couple of weeks and was
: a
: little concerned about the effects of a combustable heat source on curing
: epoxy.
: I was also wondering if carpenters glue is affected in any way by cooler
: tempuratures. My workshop is built below my house so it never gets below
: freezing yet it can get quite c-c-c-cold. Thanks.
Hi Mike
Erez is right on the C.O. problem, but, I was afraid that he was talking about an electric chair for a minute. Had me worried.
I have used two different methods for heating my garage in the past. I have a big wood burning stove in there and it has a fan that blows air through tubes that are heated by the flame. I get the garage VERY warm with that, then put the fire out. The garage will stay warm for hours that way and I can get some work done. The other method is just as Erez mentioned. I bought two of the Sears model Halogen light standards ( two bulb ) and it puts out a lot of heat. I'm going without heat in my house right now, so, I use one where my computer is sitting in the evenings. You can pick up some of the heavy plastic and build a tent over the work area and these lights will put off enough heat to work in a small enclosure. You will need the light anyway, and it doesn't get any brighter than these. You will be battling the outside ( of the tent ) temps. so they won't make it t-shirt warm, but, it may take the chill out of the air and give your glue and epoxy a chance to set up sooner. And yes, the cold temps will affect the wood glues. I believe they will still all set up, but, much slower. I don't know your situation, so, I can't recommend any sort of heater source, but, maybe there are others here that know and use something else that may work. Hope this helps.
