I aggree with nick...make it not more than 3/4" thick where your bottom is 1/2" is better. try it as you carve. it should have a secure back and side rims to hold you in place while bracing. remove any pressure points... especially remove material around your tail bone...pressure there hurts if you spend any timein your boat.

leave good support (with rounded edges) under your legs. 2 to 2-1/2" thick of course depending on your comfort and fit into the boat. My legs are always most comfortable slightly bent.
