True, if incomplete combustion occurs (as a result of insufficient oxygen in the atmosphere) excess amounts of CO can be produced. However, if there is sufficient air exchange this will not be a problem. I have used Kerosene heaters in my basement with no problems. Now I have installed a vent-free propane heater with great results as well. Before anyone calls ME crazy, let me state that I don't run the thing all the time and I do have enough air exchange to keep the oxygen level where it should be. Typically I run the heat on high for 45 minutes to take the chill off and then either shut it off or turn it to low. I also turn it off when sanding, varnishing, etc.
