We're putting the finishing touches on our first kayak (Pygmy Osprey Std) and I'm not sure what to do before or after varnishing the kayak. We are about to start cutting the hatches and installing the deck rigging hardware after putting on the final coats of deck epoxy and finishing the cockpit combing. I'd like to get the boat into the water a few times before varnishing it. Should we wait to install the hatches and install the deck rigging until after we varnish it, or is it pretty easy to remove all the gear later?
