: now the 3rd part - I'm not a chemist, but this is pretty simple: each c
: (carbon) likes 2 o's (oxygen), but it only has one o, because ,well, it's
: "co",
: so....it takes another o from the air around it, so you are left without
: oxygen & you die, it's quiet & painless, you just fall asleep - the
: perfect kill !
just to clarify the facts
the problem with co is not that it takes an extra oxygen out of the air and one loses all the oxygen (normal combustion consumes two o's for each c).
the problem is that when co is inhaled (breathed) it binds to the hemoglobin in ;one's blood with an affinity that is over thirty times as strong as the affinity of oxygen for hemoglobin. it is the hemoglogin in the red blood cells that caries the oxygen to the individual cells in the body. the oxygen is necessary to keep the cells alive. the neural tissue (read brain) is probably the most sensitive to oxygen depravation.
what this means is that the co blocks the ability of the blood to carry oxygen to the tissues and cells (brain cells in particular) die after a short time without oxygen. one gets "gorked".
just for accuracy.
