Yep, that was me looking for the valves.
Bubble wrap won't displace 100% of the air from the volume it occupies. I would guess 60-70%. I think you want to displace as much water with air as possible. Have you looked at using the heat-sealable nylon from Seattle Fabrics? No sewing required.
Save the commercial machine for a drytop, sprayskirt, tent, parawing tarp, or folding boat hull!!
Or, sew PVC-covered polyester fabric and then seal the seams with PVC cement to make float bags or drybags.

: In a previous thread, someone (maybe Shawn) was looking for valves to use in
: making float bags. I have been thinking of making some myself but wonder
: how reliable I could make them (float bags). My idea is to not make them
: water proof. I have the use of a commercial sewing machine and lots of
: marine material to sew the bags from. I intend to make them exact fit for
: bow and stern and fill them with bubble wrap, the stuff they ship delicate
: instruments in. I tried some wraped around a brick; submerged in a bucket
: of water for a week and all the air chambers were leak free.
: Anyone see any problems with my idea?
