: A while ago Mike Allen suggested using the panel patterns for s&g kayaks as
: patterns to create a bag into which one could stuff a frame, creating a
: skin on frame 'yak. How about using the same idea to create a custom kayak
: cover. I realize this will leave the strippers naked :)

: You could do this by cutting the material with enough extra around the edge
: to sew a seam. Leave the centre line of the 'rear deck' open and close it
: with a fly as per your jeans, or with Velcro (incidentally, called 'Magic
: Tape' here in Japan!) Just pull the cover over the front of the kayak and
: close the cover along the centre of the rear deck to the stern. This would
: allow access for those who use the yak as a large rooftop carrier. Webbing
: or Velcro could be sewn strategically to act as cinch straps to tighten up
: any slack (hey, our sewing may not be perfect and material does stretch
: over time).

: Just an idea that I may try sometime. Anyone with pos. or neg. comments?

Sounds like a really great idea to me!!

On the other hand I made a real simple bluetarp(prefer other colors) bag for my poly boat(uv susceptible). Rolled the yak on the tarp once, scissor cut abt 4in over lap and used duct tape for the edge. Darts in the rear for fit all ducttaped.

I tie the bow to carfront, and wrap the excess line around the bow a few times to get a tight fit, and tie off at the front roofrack. Then tie on the yak w/ maybe a few more wraps. Seems good to higher speeds than mentioned, but make the first tie tight - had to stop once because air got in and I had a pregnant potatoe on top!
