I formed my opinion from "The Bark and Skin Boats of North America" Adney and Chapelle 1983. The description of the kayaks that I have imitated in my skin boats comes with a caviat for unskilled users. "American soldiers drowned during World War II through rashly venturing into rough water before becoming parcticed in the use of these kayaks." I am sure that there are other ways to right a kayak without exiting and I would appreciate it if you would steer me to any sources that would show these techniques.
