Hi Andreas, Spidey
Andreas, I well remember your old post abt the many seals available and espec abt easily being made continuous. I wonder if when spideys present gasket wears out, a 1/4 in wide hollow gasket like the one shaped like a french window was popped in the slot and glued in place.(corrugated semicirc top w/ rectangular bottom)I bet it would totally compress as it looks like a lot of air space. Maybe relieve the channel incase of pinching.
I don't know how other's use these, but another approach might be to orient the hollow gasket somewhat sideways. Either in or out. My bias is strongly for the gasket to be on thge hatch and in this case would be especially appropriate.(Tension snap on). Say a groove facing out on the hatch and a corresponding very shallow sideways cove or groove on the yak side. Maybe double ht as the prior post suggested in order to get a real thin line. Then the hatch lays flat w/ no compression needed. In fact the hatch would sorta snap in place. (This approach is on a tiny scale similar to the double opposing cove pressure sealed hatch in my last yr fitting dwgs).
the reason I like the silicone or poly idea so much is that it'll form a perfect perfect gasket no matter what shape the hatch or flange or bad workmanshipe or whatever. It just fills to the other side. And it can cover a whole host of thru penetrations for other hatch ideas. The aspect I'm not so sure abt is the amount of deflection of the deck in major water that may let water in between. And I also think a typical foam or neo gasket has exactly the same problem somewhere on the circumference by virtue of the fact that it's is not perfect (like the silicone) to begin with. The hollow gasket may work best ,as compresses over wider range than the others, thereby keeping a seal over a larger deflection range.
