: I find that when sealing hatches, that having gaskets on opposing surfaces is
: effective. A good image for visualizing this would be an "O"
: ring pressing into a layer of softer, closed cell foam. Because the
: "O" ring is narrow and hard it forms a trench in the softer
: material. It doesn't take inordinate pressure to seal, which minimizes the
: risk of deformation in the hatch or deck (and the consequential difficult
: to fix leaks that result when the deck or hatch flexes to open gaps before
: the gaskets compress sufficiently to seal). One needn't necessarily use an
: "O" ring--just try to utilize the concept of a narrower seal
: penetrating a softer seal.
