I havnt had any problems getting my feet stuck in the hooks...they are not even too sharp if you spend some time sanding...but they arenot really in a place where you tend to get caught.

As far as their strength, I often worry but have had no problems in any of my boats. It seems to work alright the way it is, though a small bungee to the forward bulkhead would help keep it in place as it travels roof-top.
