Hi Brian;

I used my ROS with a 40 grit disk until it got too deep to continue. It removes material slowly enough that it's actually pretty easy to keep things as you want them. When it got too deep to fit in the ROS without gouging because of the severe angles, I switched to a handheld disk which is even slower yet. You can't get into too much trouble if the cuts are slow & controlled. Also, be sure & lay out the cut pattern with a pen on the surface of the foam.
