What I did was after stripping the sides past the football boundary, I used a long, thin batten to draw the edge of the football. Actually, the area is a waterline except near the bow where I curved the shape up on to the stem a bit. I then used a small pullsaw (called a beading saw by Woodcraft) to cut along the line, attempting to stay perpendicular to the surface. The cutting was mostly a ripping operation, but the pullsaw was meant for crosscut, so I basically shreded the wood over the length of the cut, and it was a long, tedious process. I don't look forward to doing that again, so I might investigate some other saws. Any recommendations? I've tried the dozuki, but it's a crosscutter too. I have a gent's saw, and althought it's not a pullsaw, I'll still give a shot next time.
