: eliminate one of the advantages of the ROS.
: The one case I've found for reducing speed is when using coarse paper on the
: initial rough sanding. Cedar can sure disappear quickly! On my Bosch DVS I
: got great results using 40 grit but backing off on the speed a little to
: control material removal. Also, when sanding between hardened coats of
: epoxy your goal isn't always a complete absence of "swirl." The
: ability to slow the sander gave me the ability to control rate of removal
: of the hardened epoxy. That way I could hit the runs, etc. and not worry
: quite so much about the possibility of suddenly seeing daylight where it
: shouldn't be. Maybe it was "all in me head!"
Hi Don
Not trying to be a smart-ass, but, I lessen the removal by sanding less. If I want to remove more, I sand more. ??? It's just an aquired feel of what you are using. Too many years of "use what ya got, to get what ya want." You may be right about the variable speed, but, I don't think the extra $$ are worth it. No, the swirl marks aren't a problem on certain items, but, if you don't have them, it's not a problem either. I've never used the V.S. ROS so I can't speak from experience, but, I've been doing fine without it, so it just seems like a "headlight - windshield wiper." Just my Opinion.
