I glassed after stripping the recess, then cut the opening and glued the vertical strips. Worked great. I think it would be a major headache to wait to glass the exterior until after the vertical coaming strips are installed - lots of snagging and fussing. When glassing the deck, you want it to go as smoothly and quickly as possible to get the clearest finish. Obstacles just invite bubbles under the cloth.
