If you use straight paint it will crack.... so mix it with boiled linseed oil in a 50/50 ratio for the first coat then 70% paint to 30% boiled linseed oil for subsequent coats.

: If I use canvas again, i'll go straight to paint. On my test canvas the paint
: went on smoother than either stain varnish or Boiled Linseed oil.
