I used them on the deck of my Guillemont 2 years ago and they worked out great.
I don't recommend using the smallest size as I did (1" OD)because I can only use 1/4" bundgie cord, but they look great. They make a larger size( 1 1/2" OD I think) that would allow you to use larger cord. The installation was very easy. I drilled out the holes with a forester bit and set the fitting in thickened epoxy. When it was dry I ground them flush. The fittings are stepped so they are bigger on the bottom than the top so they won't ever pull out.
They come in black or white and if I remember right were less than $2. each.They are made by a company called O'Fishl some place in southern CA. I bought mine at a local surf board supply company in Santa Cruz, CA called Monterey Bay Fiberglass. I"d definately use them again. The same company that makes these leash plugs also makes removable surf board skegs. I curious if anyone out there has ever used one on a kayak. There's a rectangular fitting that could be set flush in the hull (simular to the leash) and the skegs just snap in or out ass needed. If anyone's tried this please let me know how it worked out.
