: I saw an ad today for a product called Bristol Finish, by C Tech Marine. It
: appears to be a 2-part finish and is described as an acrylic urethane. It
: is supposed to be the same color as varnish (the automotive clearcoats are
: "water clear"). Supposedly 10 times the UV resistance of varnish
: and 100 times the abrasion resistance.
: Anybody know anything about this stuff?
: Grant
Hi Grant,
I have never used this particular stuff but they are pretty much the same between manufacturers and I have used plenty of the same stuff from other manufacturers.
They are exactly as described. They are very toxic. You need a fresh air respirator and a suit to use them safely. Best results are obtained by spraying.
I sprayed a kayak recently for a friend and I used the water clear type. It allows the wood to show uncoloured by the varnish type, yellow stuff. Personally I prefer the clear.
