Thanks Ian, That's about what I expected. One thing that seems odd to me is that they still say one needs to put on 6 or 7 coats. Some of the high solids automotive clears only suggest 2 coats. Are they just being conservative, or what? 6 coats, even at short intervals, seems like a pain.
I agree that the water clear stuff really looks good, though some may miss the "amber glow". My general feeling on wood is that if one wants a different look, one should use a different wood.
Thanks again for your comments. On this subject I really value your expert opinion. (when there are posts relating to these subjects, I always read yours first.)

: Hi Grant,
: I have never used this particular stuff but they are pretty much the same
: between manufacturers and I have used plenty of the same stuff from other
: manufacturers.
: They are exactly as described. They are very toxic. You need a fresh air
: respirator and a suit to use them safely. Best results are obtained by
: spraying.
: I sprayed a kayak recently for a friend and I used the water clear type. It
: allows the wood to show uncoloured by the varnish type, yellow stuff.
: Personally I prefer the clear.
