: Just collecting from below is only mildly effective. A lot of chips blow out
: the top of the blade as well. It is these top chips which blow around the
: room and are annoying. When I'm doing alot of sawing I hook up the shopvac
: to a hood on top of the saw as well as below. This is pretty effective at
: keeping dust out of the air.
I built an auxillary fence that bolts to the side of the stock sears fence on my 9" table saw. I fashoned it out of 2" x 3" rect. aluminum rectangular tubing capped both ends with 3/4" plywood one having a snug fit hole for a small size vacuum hose. I drilled 3/8" holes in an arc above the top of the blade.The hose tees into the large hose that hooks into the base of the saw. The aux also holds my yellow wheel anti-kick back hold downs. The face of the fence has a strip of slick UHMW plastic. The holes in the fence do an excelent job of pulling the dust and chips off the top of the saw.
