Hi Timfish,
The board I used is 2x4x8 ft. The grove is just under a half inch, 15/32 deep and located 1 3/16" from the edge. I have a tiny nail in the grove at the end so the strip won't slip while I am planing it. I used one of my strips nailed to the edge for the fence. The angle would change if you kept planing it down but I blue chalk the edge of the strip and plane just until the chalk is gone. It is really fast. I start with a 5 degree angle and walk the plane down the strip about 3 times for the complete cut. I would say about a minute or two. I take my usually 8 ft piece, place it on the boat to see if I need more angle and mark that with a pencil, then set it in the grove and chalk that area and using my extra fence strip I put on a 7 1/2 degree angle and if that isn't enough I use the two extra strips to put on a 10 degree angle. I use a jack plane and its base is 2 3/8" wide but as long as your block planes are wide enough to make the cut it would be the same. Hope this helps.
