Smaller metal boats tend to come out on the heavy side, I have heard. Here is a 12 foot aluminum dinghy that came in at 100 pounds, which is about what a similar stitch and glue plywood boat might weigh. The work looks lovely. The builder made it, I think, for practice before starting his main project, a big catamaran.
